WHY IS ERROR CODE $053E APPEARING ON THE AUTOCAL?

by Kevin Toped 07 Mar 2025

If you encounter error $053E while programming your vehicle, it indicates that the VIN submitted with your AutoCal order does not match the VIN of the vehicle you're trying to program. Ensure that the VIN you provide during the ordering process matches the vehicle's VIN exactly. To fix this issue, a new tune in .bbx format will need to be created and sent to you. Once received, follow these steps to upload the new tune to your AutoCal:

Quick Setup Programming

The Quick Setup method is the most efficient way to program all necessary files to make your AutoCal device functional.

The Quick Setup file includes:

  • Device configuration settings.
  • The current Options.txt file with controller and PID selections.
  • All supporting configuration files (*.obj, *.pmm, *.bix, and *.dtc).
  • Up to five tune files in *.ctz and/or *.coz formats.

Your tuner will need to send you a *.bbx quick setup file via email.

  1. Save the *.bbx file received from your tuner to this folder: \Documents\EFILive\V8\BBX.
  2. Connect your AutoCal device to your PC and launch the V8 Scan and Tune software.
  3. In the V8 software, go to [F5: BBX] > [F6: Quick Setup].
  4. Click [Open Quick Setup], navigate to the folder where you saved the *.bbx file, and select it.
  5. Do not alter any of the settings unless instructed by your tuner.
  6. Click [Program Quick Setup] to apply device settings, controller configurations, and tune files to your AutoCal.
